Cologne Bridge

This infrastructure intervention introduces two site- responsive pedestrian and bicycle crossings over the Rhine River, weaving sustainable mobility into Cologne’s urban fabric through the contextual use of the historic "Cologne Green" palette.

The northern crossing utilizes an ultra-slim network arch typology designed for optimal structural efficiency. Formally inspired by the trajectory of a skipping stone, its sweeping steel arch spans a 290-meter main clearance with minimal structural mass, acting as an elegant frame that accentuates the visual axis toward the historic city center and cathedral. 

The southern crossing is an expansive 624-meter cable-stayed system that links the adjacent left-bank and right-bank districts. Synthesizing structural lightness with local architectural memory, the engineering employs a single, slender A-shaped pylon that references the existing neighboring bridge infrastructure, allowing the lightweight bridge deck to clear the protected grasslands without disrupting the natural topography.
