The architectural concept for the Gallery of Science introduces a monumental cultural and scientific hub defined by a dramatic, cantilevered superstructure that lifts the main exhibition volumes high above the ground plane. The design shifts the standard building mass upward, utilizing a complex, biomorphic grid system that functions as both structural support and an intricate skin. These sculptural, funnel-like structural pillars ground the building while opening up a vast, shaded public plaza at the base, creating a seamless urban landscape that invites visitors to gather, interact, and transition into the facility.
The elevated main pavilion is organized as a series of fluid, shifting horizontal plates that slice through the air to form expansive, open-air viewing terraces and deep cantilevers. A highly expressive, undulating roof plane crowns the facility, punctuated by integrated skylights that flood the upper exhibition spaces with controlled natural light. The complex lattice structure that wraps the underside of the canopy creates a constantly changing play of light and shadow on the plaza below. This design approach creates a highly visible urban landmark, blending advanced parametric structural systems with dynamic public programming to celebrate scientific discovery.
Internally, the spatial choreography mimics the fluid geometry of the exterior, steering visitors through a continuous, non-linear sequence of interactive exhibition galleries. The organic structural funnels double as monumental vertical atriums, drawing diffuse daylight deep into the lower levels while facilitating intuitive circulation between the subterranean public amenities and the elevated scientific halls. Glass partitions and open-plan configurations maximize internal sightlines, fostering visual connections between different research disciplines and public viewing zones. By blending advanced environmental microclimates with flexible, column-free exhibition spaces, the interior functions as a living laboratory where architecture actively participates in the curation and communication of scientific knowledge.
